This map shows the approximate locations of the births,
marriages and deaths of family members using baby, church and
cross symbols respectively — these are linked by
lines where appropriate. Clicking on any of these items gives
some information about the individual. As this is simply an
overlay for Google Maps all the usual scrolling, zooming and
full-screen functions are available, although they may vary from
device to device.
There are four colour-coded Ancestor layers based on
different parts of the family tree, and these can be switched on
and off at will using the side panel (available via the icon at
the top left of the map). Note that relationships like
“great-grandfather” are relative to the person at
the root of each layer. The symbols are shaded to give an idea
of the generations so that the further back the person, the
lighter the colour used. If there has been more than one event
at a given place the symbols are shown stacked, although this
may not be apparent unless zoomed in. There are also several
All layers, which include all known individuals linked
by blood or marriage to Edward Robert Bishop: these layers are
not shown by default, and have to be enabled via the side panel.
Note that some of the locations are very approximate and in many
cases are shown to the nearest large town. For example, an event
that was simply recorded as “Kent” will be located on
the county town, i.e., Maidstone.
